What is the AIA access code for My Psychologist?

Where and how will I have my sessions?

You’ll have your session online; this allows people to have secure and private meetings over the internet. Select the link sent to you and you'll automatically be taken to your online psychologist’s ‘waiting room’.

How do I get my Medicare rebate?

Your psychologist will process your Medicare rebate after your session. Medicare will send the funds to your bank account which you have linked to your Medicare number—this is usually done by Medicare within 24 hours.

How soon after my session is the rebate processed?

Within 24 hours.

Do I need to prepare anything for my first session, such as what I want to speak about?

Not really. It can be helpful to come with broad ideas about what’s happening, but most people aren’t sure why they’re struggling with something, or there are so many things going on that it’s hard to make sense of it all. Don’t worry about that, it’s the job of a psychologist to help you make sense of what’s going on for you and to help put together an excellent map of your challenges and how to make things better.

Is it normal to feel a little nervous about starting therapy?

Absolutely! Therapy is one of the greatest gifts a person can give themselves—it aims to improve and change your life. But the first step of meeting your psychologist, sharing and making sense of what’s happening for you, can feel a little strange. Embrace it! You are practising the definition of courage by pursuing something valuable that begins with a push. It becomes easier and enjoyable quickly—so congratulate yourself for the courage to get started.

Can my sessions impact underwriting outcomes?

If you apply to increase your cover or apply for an extra benefit in the future, a full insurance application process will apply. You’ll have a duty to tell the insurer (AIA Australia Limited) anything you know that could affect the insurer’s decision to insure you and on what terms. This outcome could result in you being declined or being offered insurance on modified terms and conditions.

What data is shared with AIA? Where is it stored? How is privacy protected?

This service is confidential. No personal data is shared with AIA. Only high-level numbers of engagement (i.e. 6 people attended for the month). Online Psychology Australia’s customer data is stored in Australia in accordance with the relevant privacy legislation requirements.

How did AIA source a provider?

AIA met with several service providers to get an understanding of where data is stored, what their QA systems are, how they select staff, what qualifications the staff have, the timeframe to be able to deliver a service and the ability to provide a Metal Health Care Plan with a GP. AIA has reviewed their quality framework as part of the procurement process. Their framework is strong and has peer review and QA checks built into it.
