Vale Tony Cole

A tribute to Vale Tony Cole.

23 Dec 2025

Our colleague and friend, Mr. Tony Cole, passed away in November 2025. We have all reflected on his loss and I wanted to share with his family and our customers, the gratitude my team and I have for his mentorship and support during his service on our Board of directors for 6 years, from July 2011 to June 2017.

Tony’s distinguished career spanned both public and private sectors. He worked with the World Bank; was treasurer Paul Keating’s first private secretary; became the thirteenth Secretary of the Department of Treasury; and seamlessly transitioned to private sector work as Senior Executive in Mercer’s investment business, amongst many other roles.

Tony’s contribution to Australian public sector policy was recognised in 1995, when he was appointed an Officer of the Order of Australia. He also served on the Fair Work Commission’s Expert Panel and the National Commission of Audit.

Drawing on his broad experience, Tony helped strengthen CSC’s investment governance, benefiting all our members. His thoughtful, analytical approach and genuine character made him both respected and well-liked. We are all better for his influence.
