July’s hike was an opportunity to be a part of a pilot event with Invictus, which aims to involve participants from the Canberra Defence Veteran community and their families, in a social activity that emphasises movement.
“It was a lovely morning hiking Mt Ainslie and having a coffee afterwards at the War Memorial. We got to chat to Debbie from Invictus Australia as well as our Veteran community,” Seryn shared.
The Engagement Committee will continue to assist Debbie with more volunteering opportunities in the future and CSC staff will have the opportunity to join in.
James Caspersonn, CSC’s Case Manager, reflected on his morning with Invictus and shared, "Community engagement I believe is something very important for any organisation. Upon an invitation to hike Mt. Ainslie with Invictus Australia representing CSC, I knew it was a great opportunity to engage with the veteran community and learn real stories."
James said he thoroughly enjoyed participating in this rewarding experience. "Invictus Australia is a fantastic organisation as it empowers veterans to thrive in civilian life and support those who are transitioning from the Defence Force. I hope this is the start of many more engagements between the two organisations."
CSC would like to thank our staff for volunteering their time and giving back to our valued Defence community: Seryn, Scott, Joel, Lil, Bec, and James.
Invictus Australia brings together sporting, community, and veteran organisations to break down barriers to sport participation for veterans and their families.
