Honouring Women and Families United by Defence Service 2019
14 Aug 2019

CSC are proud to support, for the second year, the sharing of the stories of women united by Defence Service.
The second Honouring Women and Families United by Defence Service event took place on 14 August 2019. The event was held to recognise the service and sacrifice by women and families in the defence of the nation including serving women, widows, spouses, parents and children.
The day honoured women who are currently serving/have served, and also mothers, spouses, sisters and children who have suffered as a result of a family member’s service.
The events commenced with a Last Post and Wreath Laying Ceremony at the Australian War Memorial, followed by an official dinner at Parliament House, as well as time to meet with Members of Parliament, and attend Question Time.
The HWUDS event was made possible through the partnership of the War Widows’ Guild of Australia, Legacy, the RSL, the TPI Association of NSW, the Department of Veterans’ Affairs (DVA), the Partners of Veterans Association, the Women Veterans Network Australia and representatives of the Australian Defence Force.
Guest speakers at the dinner included His Excellency General the Honourable David Hurley, Dr Brendan Nelson AO, Director of the Australian War Memorial, The Honourable Linda Reynolds CSC, MP, and Minister for Defence and Minister for Veterans Affairs – The Honourable Darren Chester MP. These speakers paid their respects to women in service, and called for us to work together towards a stronger voice for all women in defence.
