As the COVID-19 situation has seen many of us spending more time at home, and using devices more frequently, unfortunately we have seen an increase in the activities of scammers.
The wellbeing of our customers is always at the forefront of our minds, and this includes ways we can help you stay safe online.
It’s important that you always get information about your super from a credible source. As a general rule, it’s best to get any information you want from a company from them directly, rather than from a third party website where the information may not be credible or correct.
If a website looks a bit fishy, look for the secure connection (https) at the beginning of the URL in the address bar. If there is an ‘s’ you’re on a secure connection—there will also be a padlock symbol in the address bar, you can click that padlock to check the security details of any secure website. If there’s no ‘s’ and no padlock in the address bar, you are not on a secure site, so be extra careful with your personal information.
Email safetySuspicious emails will often do things like ask you to:
- provide your personal information
- take an action immediately
- click a link to visit a website.
It’s best to avoid clicking any links in an email—you can Google the company, find the real website address, and access any information that way. It’s important that you always check the source of an email, you can do this by looking at who the sender is.
What do you do with emails that look like they’re not from a credible source?
- Ignore the email
- Delete it
- Reach out to us if you want to verify that something is legitimate
You should only share your personal information with people you trust, or organisations with a legitimate need for it. This includes sharing information on social media.
