The CSC Team

Commonwealth Superannuation Corporation's (CSC's) principal responsibility is to manage and invest the Funds to maximise the benefits to members. We have a fiduciary duty to act in members' best interest.

Your Board of Directors

The Directors are appointed by the Minister for Finance and Deregulation, nominated for their experience and knowledge by the employer, the Australian Council of Trade Unions (ACTU) and/or the Chief of the Defence Force. The Chairman is independent.

The Directors are responsible for all aspects of management of the Schemes, including investment strategy, administration and stakeholder communications.

Mr Tony Hyams

Mr Tony Hyams
Appointed 1 July 2011 to 30 June 2014

Mr Hyams was appointed as the inaugural Chairman of CSC on 1 July 2011.

Mr Hyams was Chairman of the predecessor organisations, ARIA and the Military Superannuation and Benefits Board. Until recently he was Deputy Chairman of The Australian Maritime Safety Authority and a Director of The Australian Government Employees Superannuation Trust. Mr Hyams is an Independent Adviser to the Credit Suisse Group and is a Governor of WWF Australia. He has degrees in Law and Commerce from the University of Melbourne.

Mr Anthony (Tony) Cole

Mr Anthony (Tony) Cole AO
Appointed 1 July 2011 to 30 June 2013

Mr Cole is a senior partner of the global consulting, outsourcing and investment company, Mercer. Over recent years he has led the company's Asia Pacific investment consulting business and been a member of the Global Investment Consulting Leader's Group and an Executive Director of Mercer's Australian company. Before joining Mercer in 1996, he was Executive Director of the Life Investment and Superannuation Association of Australia. Mr Cole has also held a number of senior federal government appointments including Secretary to the Treasury.

Mr Cole is the Chairman of the Advisory Board of the Melbourne Institute of Applied Economic and Social Research, a member of the Advisory Boards of the Australian Office of Financial Management and of the Northern Territory Treasury Corporation. In 1995 he was awarded an Order of Australia for service to government and industry.

General Peter Cosgrove, AC, MC, CNZM

General Peter Cosgrove, AC, MC, CNZM
Appointed 1 July 2011 to 30 June 2014

General Cosgrove is a retired Australian Army Officer. He was Chief of the Defence Force from 3 July 2002 to 3 July 2005, when he retired from full time service after a long and distinguished career. He has numerous board appointments, principal among which is the Qantas Board.

Mr Peter Feltham

Mr Peter Feltham
Appointed 1 July 2011 to 30 June 2012

Mr Feltham is a member of CSC's Audit and Risk Management Committee. Mr Feltham is a Senior Industrial Officer with the Community and Public Sector Union (CPSU) and responsible for superannuation policy within the CPSU. He has worked for the CPSU and its predecessor organisations for more than 25 years in a range of capacities at the state and national level as both an employee and official. Before this Mr Feltham worked for 10 years in the federal public service.

Ms Nadine Flood

Ms Nadine Flood
Appointed 1 July 2011 to 30 June 2014

Ms Flood is a member of CSC's Human Resources Committee. Ms Flood is the National Secretary of the Community and Public Sector Union (CPSU), and is a Member and Director of a number of other bodies, including the ACTU Executive.

Ms Lyn Gearing
Appointed 13 September 2011 to 12 September 2013

Ms Gearing has business experience in superannuation, funds management, corporate finance and management consulting. She is currently a Director of QIC, IMB Limited, Garvan Research Foundation, Global Mining Investments Limited and Hancock Natural Resource Group Australasia Pty Ltd.

Ms Peggy Haines

Ms Peggy Haines
Appointed 1 July 2011 to 30 June 2014

Ms Haines is a member of CSC's Human Resources Committee. Ms Haines is a former partner with one of Australia's top law firms specialising in superannuation and financial services law. Ms Haines is a lawyer as well as a Director and Member of a number of other bodies, including being an emeritus member of the Law Council of Australia Superannuation Committee.

Ms Winsome Hall

Ms Winsome Hall
Appointed 1 July 2011 to 30 June 2013

Ms Hall is Chair of CSC's Audit and Risk Management Committee. Ms Hall is Chairman of Zurich Australian Superannuation Pty Ltd and Trustee Director of various commercialisation funds as a nominee of AustralianSuper. Ms Hall has previously been Director of listed company Colonial First State Infrastructure and Private Equity, the Financial Industry Complaints Scheme and State Super Financial Services. She has provided best practice advice to the Association of Superannuation Funds Australia and was previously a Senior Advisor in the Department of the Prime Minister and Cabinet and Secretary of the ACT Branch of the CPSU from 1989 to 1993.

Mr John McCullagh

Mr John McCullagh
Appointed 1 July 2011 to 30 June 2013

Mr McCullagh is a member of CSC's Audit & Risk Management Committee. Mr McCullagh formerly held the position of CEO to the Military Superannuation and Benefits Scheme Board and was a member of the transition team established to implement the Government's reforms affecting Australian Government superannuation schemes. Mr McCullagh is a nominee of the Chief of the Defence Force to represent ADF interests on the Board.

Mr Gabriel Szondy

Mr Gabriel Szondy
Appointed 1 July 2011 to 30 June 2014

Mr Szondy is a member of CSC's Audit and Risk Management Committee. Mr Szondy has extensive experience in the taxation and superannuation industries and was a senior partner in one of Australia's top accounting firms. He was a former member of the Military Superannuation Benefits Board. Mr Szondy holds a number of other appointments including Independent Director CARE Super, Director (representative of AustralianSuper) Frontier Investment Consulting Pty Ltd and Special Advisor to the Chairman of the Centre for Investor Education (CIE).

Dr Michael John Vertigan

Dr Michael John Vertigan, AC
Appointed 1 July 2011 to 30 June 2013

Dr Vertigan is a member of CSC's Audit and Risk Management Committee. Dr Vertigan has experience in the public, higher education, philanthropy and business sectors. He is the former Chairman of the AGEST Superannuation Fund and former Secretary of the Victorian and Tasmanian Departments of Treasury and Finance and has held a number of academic appointments. Dr Vertigan holds a number of other appointments to state government and private sector bodies.

The Executive Team

Mr Peter Carrigy-Ryan – Chief Executive Officer

Responsibilities: Management of CSC and implementing the strategy and policies of the Board of Directors.

Alison Tarditi – Chief Investment Officer

Responsibilities: Management of investments, investment risk, fund performance and ensuring the Board is provided with impartial investment advice.

Bronwyn McNaughton – Senior Executive Legal & Risk

Responsibilities: Management of legal advice, organisational risk management, audit and compliance programs.

Leonie McCracken – Senior Executive Operations

Responsibilities: Oversight of the investment operations, treasury and tax functions, including management of custody arrangements.

Kevin Thompson – Senior Executive Finance & Technology

Responsibilities: Financial management, corporate finance and information technology.

Helen Ayres – Senior Executive Trustee & Business Services

Responsibilities: Corporate Secretary, and business and corporate services.

Christine Pearce – Senior Executive Member & Employer Services

Responsibilities: Oversight of the strategies, policies and practices for member and employer services, communications and related functions.
